A golden retriever's hilarious reaction to being woken up seven minutes earlier than usual is delighting the internet.
In the clip, a sleepy Cali struggles to keep her eyes open as she sits by her owner's bed waiting for attention.
Since the video was shared by TikToker @caligoldengurl on September 26, the drowsy dog has received over 2.5 million views and 534,000 likes.
According to PetMD, dogs spend an average of 12 hours a day sleeping. Puppies, older dogs and larger breeds tend to need more sleep, while smaller breed dogs or working dogs need less.
Even when they're awake, dogs spend around 30 percent of their time lying around and chilling, but nap time is crucial for a healthy hound. Just like humans, sleep is when dogs rest and recuperate, but it's also important for memory and learning.
The Sleep Foundation says there are things you can do to help your dog get the best sleep possible.
Just like humans, canines' circadian rhythms are influenced by light, which is why it's important to make their sleeping space as dark as possible. Noise control is also vital, to ensure their sleep isn't disrupted. If your dog is struggling to wind down, the Sleep Foundation says a regular sleep schedule can help them to relax.
Regular exercise can also help dogs to doze off at night, while relaxation breaks throughout the day can help canines to get the physical and mental rest they need.
Although many dogs like to snooze with their humans, having their own bed is key for quality sleep. Whether owners realize it or not, their movement may be disturbing their pet's sleep, making a crate or a dog bed a better place to slumber.
In the video captions, Cali's owner explains that she woke the retriever up seven minutes early that morning. As anyone familiar with the snooze button will tell you, losing even seven minutes of sleep is a painful experience.
Clearly struggling to stay awake, 1-year-old Cali wobbles slightly from side to side as her eyes flutter open and closed.
Speaking from her pet's perspective, Cali's owner says in the clip: "The light is way too bright for my eyes.
"Can we sleep some more please?"
TikTok users couldn't get enough of Cali and her hatred of mornings, with madison beale commenting: "poor doggo."
"They act like they don't sleep all day too," joked Emltar.
"My heart!!!! Same face my pup makes!" wrote Dr.Wakawakawaka.
Fortunately, Cali's owner informed everyone that they both got to go back to sleep for an hour before starting their day.
