For many players, when Real Madrid and Florentino Perez come calling it is nearly impossible to say no.
Less than a week ago it seemed almost definite that Kylian Mbappe - a boyhood fan who had posters of Madrid-era Cristiano Ronaldo on his wall growing up - would be the latest superstar to be lured to the bright lights of the Bernabeu and become a Galactico.
Real Madrid certainly thought that was the case. Even though nothing was signed, they long believed that Mbappe would be their player next season and that a deal would be wrapped up once the forward's PSG contract expired this summer.
Kylian Mbappe texted Florentino Perez to tell him that he was staying at Paris Saint-Germain

According to El Chiringuito, the 23-year-old sent Perez a text message that left the Real Madrid president and the rest of the Bernabeu hierarchy in shock.
'I inform you that I have decided to stay at PSG,' the message reportedly read. 'I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to play for Real Madrid, the club I have been a fan of since I was a kid.
'I hope you understand my decision, good luck in the UCL Final.'
Mbappe has agreed a new three-year deal in Paris and will reportedly earn £34million per year
Perez has focused his entire transfer strategy in recent years on signing the French forward
Mbappe's decision comes as a devastating blow to Perez, who has focused his entire transfer strategy in recent years on signing Mbappe. For example, Real Madrid did not push that hard to sign Erling Haaland as they were set on agreeing a deal for the French international.
Los Blancos also lost out on signing Mbappe when he left Monaco in 2017, while they had a £154million bid rejected for him last summer.
The Champions League final against Liverpool will be the club's immediate focus, but Perez will now surely be desperately working in the background trying to sign another superstar name this summer.
As for Mbappe, he is set become the world's highest-paid player and perhaps the most influential. The Athletic claim he will earn around £34million a year, which equates to roughly £653,000-a-week.
Mbappe marked his new deal with a hat-trick against Metz in PSG's final game of the season
Meanwhile, Marca have reported that the forward will have an input into key decisions in Paris, such as who to appoint as the next sporting director and manager.
Mbappe, who marked his new contract with a hat-trick against Metz in the final Ligue 1 game of the season, said: 'I'm really happy to continue the adventure here at Paris Saint-Germain. To stay in Paris, my city.
'I hope that I will continue to do what I prefer to with you all and win titles together. Thanks a lot.'
