She may only be 33 years old, but Kate Mara is already thinking (and getting excited) about the idea of getting older.
In a recent interview with Refinery29, Mara opened up about aging and sexism in Hollywood.
“Even though I’m in this industry where that is a huge part of the discussion – and aging is seen as a negative – aging, to me, so far, hasn’t been a scary thing,” the American Horror Story actress said.
Mara, who also starred in the Netflix drama House of Cards, credits her mom with shaping her view on aging.
“My mom never made a big deal about getting older.” Mara says, explaining that the women in her family didn’t bother stressing over the aging process.
“I wasn’t brought up to be concerned with that.”
While several women in Hollywood – including Zoe Saldana, Kate Beckinsale and Lena Dunham – have spoken out about the misogyny they face every day in the industry, Mara revealed she considers herself “lucky” to have never experienced the same sort of treatment.

“I’m aware of all these things that have happened to other actresses, and they are certainly not okay, and the unequal pay thing is wrong,” she said.
Fans can expect to see the Emmy nominee in her “most physically demanding role” yet when she stars in Morgan, out Sept. 2. Mara says she “did almost every one of my own stunts…in heels” in the sci-fi thriller.
