Fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi is known for splashy clothing and an even splashier personality, but his home in New York City's Greenwich Village neighborhood is much more understated.
In a recent spread in Architectural Digest, the 52-year-old showed off the 4,000-square-foot apartment he shares with his husband, actor Arnold Germer, and the decor is simple yet elegant.
From the living room to the master bedroom, the pair opts for clean white walls, antique furniture and just an occasional burst of color.

Simple yet elegant: Mr Mizrahi's living room features antique chairs, a 19th-century pedestal table and a grand piano
'I work with color and pattern all day long, but there’s a reserve to my personal taste,' Mizrahi said. 'To me the essence of style, at least in terms of the apartment, is a gradual refining process.'
And gradual it has been: Mr Mizrahi, whose home is actually three apartments that he merged into one larger one, acquired the first space in 1991. In 1997, he acquired the apartment two doors down, and finally purchased the one in between in 2010 for $3.5million, according to the Wall Street Journal.

ShareThe most colorful part of the house appears to be the couple's den, where they were photographed sitting in front of a large painting by Tomory Dodge, an American artist based in Los Angeles. Mr Mizrahi is pictured sitting on an antique armchair upholstered in a floral fabric from his collaboration with S. Harris.
The living room is more muted, with a 19th-century pedestal table and antique chairs positioned near a roaring fireplace. A grand piano is in the corner near the window (Mr Mizrahi plays).
The bedroom is equally as pristine and inviting: The sunlight is the main attraction as it pours over the white bedspread, small corner table and a wall of mismatched artwork.

Mr Mizrahi showed his first collection in 1987, but didn't become a household name until 1995, when Unzipped, a documentary about the making of his fall '94 collection, came out.
Since then, Mr Mizrahi has risen to fame for her personality as much as his clothing. He's been a judge on Project Runway All-Stars, served as a red carpet correspondent during the Oscars for Live with Kelly and had his own shows on Oxygen and The Style Network.
Mr Mizrahi and Mr Germer married in 2011 after six years of dating.
