School officials in a Michigan school district are investigating a teacher who allegedly operates and performs on a pornography website with her husband.
Linda Janack, a reading teacher at Edgemont Elementary School in Belleville, Michigan, has raised eyebrows over her reported extracurricular activities with her husband Scott Janack. The teacher's colleagues said has a great reputation in regard to her teaching duties, WDIV-TV reported.
After school, however, Janack reportedly runs and works on an X-rated pornography site called Hot For Teacher. Janack's husband confirmed to WDIV-TV that he and his wife ran the pornography website. He told the station that he hoped the increased media attention would bring more traffic to their website.
Parents complained about Janack's activities to Van Buren Township school officials, district officials told WDIV-TV.
Van Buren Public Schools Superintendent Peter Kudlak confirmed to Newsweek that there was an investigation into Janack but said he could not comment on school personnel issues. He noted that the district had learned of Janack's website before parents began to complain.
Kudlak said that there were no complaints about Janack's teaching duties and called her a "very good teacher." The superintendent said he was unsure whether Janack would be teaching in the upcoming school year, but said he might have a clearer picture after the school board meeting on August 27.
Kudlak told Newsweek that he would like to encourage parents to speak up if they ever have concerns that may affect their children. He said the school district would look into and investigate any concern a parent brings up.
The mother of one of Janack's students told WDIV-TV that her children really liked her as a teacher.
"But that's not OK, and I can't believe if the district knows about it they're still allowing it," the mother, who asked not to be identified, said. She added that if her children were to be assigned to Janack again, she would pull them from the school district.
None of Janack's actions appeared to be illegal and it was unclear whether the school district can do anything about a teacher's outside activities.
The Michigan Supreme Court chose not to get involved in a 2010 court fight between a school district in Macomb County and a teacher who was pictured simulating a sex act with a mannequin at a bachelorette party, the Detroit Free Press reported. A court of appeals ruled that a public school teacher could not be fired for behaviors outside of school that did not affect students.
